SOMA Half IM Update

Short and sweet (or is that bittersweet) here.

I came into this race ready to make some money. I have not been able to say that phrase outside of a swim prime but I now am believing that I am getting closer to getting this all to work.

Swim went well and after Mr. Sampson went off course I was all by myself. Ended up putting around 3 minutes on the field on the swim and then headed off for the bike. Settled in with the new wireless DA SRM and let'er rip. The course had 23 turns (+hairpins) each lap! Crit Soma anyone?! :) The lead group finally caught up about 20 miles in and I stuck to them like glue. If I wanted a paycheck out of today (it only went 3 deep) I was going to have to RACE. Settled in and things not only felt good... they felt great. The lead group of five included myself, Chris MacDonald, Ben Hoffman, Bjorn Andersson and Paul Tichelaar. I felt really good just zooming around packs and hangin' with these guys.

Then...

It happened. Mile 53... pfttttttttttititititititititit. wump wump wump wump wump. A flat. I thought about riding it but those thoughts left quickly as I nearlly ate it within seconds of it going completely flat. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hoped off and immediately went to work with the fix a flat... no luck... it shot right thru. Tried a CO2 still no good. I'm out. a few minutes later I get a tube and tire and get the tire changed. 15 minutes or more for this little game and then I'm off again. *sigh* I really wanted to mix it up on the run. My legs felt REALLY good coming off the bike. Got to T2 and just took my time. Headed out and took an easy jog around the lack twice. Stopped at aid stations and slowed to chat with quite a few friends I found on the course. Then tonight... I found out I still ran a 1.27 while goofing off.

IMAZ...... is going to be good.

So dissappointed, yes. But only getting to taste but a sample of the fitness that I am coming into with Arizona 4 weeks away has me salivating for more. I have my workouts for this next week and I can't wait to dive into them. This has left me super motivated going into the final 2-3 weeks of main prep for the race and I am determined to kill it.

To quote the governator... "I'll be baaack"

Awesome buddy! Keep rockin' and being so positive. You WILL knock one out of the ball park one of these days. Looking forward to racing you in AZ.
