Pac Crest Bike Photos... such an amazing bike course

All photos are compliments of Chris Williams.

Pacific Crest Half Iron

Took the win but Matt had a bit of gimp in his stride left from a crash at Boise. Still I had a good showing and a solid run. Loving the mile repeats. Results here... http://www.racecenter.com/results/RCNW_results.htm

As for the $... it's already gone. *sigh* : (

Pics, RR and summation of the 6 races in 5 weeks to come. Had some backcountry fun today. Light training tomorrow and enjoying Bend. TJ's run then airport and home on Tuesday.

5430 Boulder Sprint Coverage in Daily Camera

A little bit of race coverage for the home town show down yesterday. Goal for the week on here is to get a synopsis of the last couple races up as well some training updates. I'm off to Bend, OR this week to race Pacific Crest Half Ironman on Saturday. Looking forward to some PNW mountain time and hanging with my backcountry buddy (...and i dont train for tri's but still Q-for-Kona) Chris Williams.

Doing a double isn't all that bad. Hmmmm Lifetime backed up with Boulder Peak?

— A total of 286 people participated in their first triathlon on Sunday at the Boulder Reservoir.

The 5430 Sprint Triathlon was Mark Van Akkeren's second triathlon of the weekend.

Van Akkeren, the defending champion, finished second to Simon Thompson. On Saturday, he competed in the Lake to Lake Triathlon in Loveland, where he finished second to fellow Boulder triathlete Justin Daerr. Fairview cross country coach Teri Cady won the women's race with a time of 1:18:07.

"It's looking like two runner-up finishes for the weekend, which is not too bad," Van Akkeren said after completing Sunday's half-mile swim, 17-mile bike and 3.1-mile run with a time of 1:10:08. "But we always want better."Van Akkeren was second overall in the swim (9:49) and bike (39:12) legs and had about a 44-second lead on Thompson entering the run. But the Australian Olympian dominated the final leg with a time of 17:23 to break the tape comfortably ahead of Van Akkeren, who finished 17th in the run (19:09).

"I had nothing on the bike, no power, and I just couldn't stay with Mark at all," Thompson said. "But I got off the bike and I was like, 'Oh, well that feels good.'

"And I just went with it. I found my rhythm quickly and enjoyed the run."

Mark Dvorak (1:10:59) finished third and was closing fast on his run (17:52).

Van Akkeren, who won last year's 5430 Sprint by less then a minute over runner-up Eric Peterson, didn't use fatigue as an excuse. He said some poor transitioning was as much to blame as Thompson's final kick.

"I came out of the water and struggled with my wet suit, and by the time I got on my bike, pretty much all of my swim lead had evaporated," Van Akkeren said. "I gave it all I had (on the bike) and had about a 44-second lead. I knew it wouldn't be enough to hold him off."

Still, finishing second to one of the world's top triathletes isn't anything to be ashamed of. Especially just 24 hours after competing in a triathlon that included a 1.5K swim, 30-mile bike and 10K run.

"It just adds a whole different level to the event," Van Akkeren said of having Thompson in the field.

Thompson finished 10th in triathlon at the 2004 Olympics and won the Australian long course title in 2005. He will try to defend his 5430 Long Course title on Aug. 9 and is thinking about entering the Boulder Peak Triathlon on July 12.

"It might be fun to try and get all three," Thompson said. "We'll see."

Tweeting Twitting Tweet Twit Twt

How shrt can I make a msg & stil get the pnt across?

Yes... been very busy... busy to the point of bad... busy to the point of mind is too actively engaged to allow for proper recovery given the training i've been doing. However Paulo noted this as well as one of my athletes and I've now made naps and elevated legs and "active" relaxing (i.e. "forcing" myself to do so) the priority. It's working... tho i wasn't expecting the 2+ hour nap today. Track... here I come.

For now... some twitting...

Oliver Half Iron Results

Just a quick update here as I navigate an inbox loaded with NEED TO GET TO NOW's... errr... make that yesterday.

Full report to come in a day or so.  A beautiful race in a gorgeous place.  Joe and Sarah Dixon put on a superb event.  I really wish you could call this (or the Desert Half next month) Half Ironman Canada as it's pretty much the same region/area as the big one in August (which J&S also direct).  The weather was perfect aside from a little bit of a south wind and I had an okay day.  I swam and rode easy in hopes of setting up myself for a fresh and, thereby, fast run but it just didn't workout that way.  Still seeking the feeling I had on the third leg in Longhorn last year.

Had a good time on Monday with Tom and Jonathan (1st and 2nd at the event) going for a nice swim and then a cruisey ride out to Naramata for coffee and treats.  Also a huge thanks to Jill and Jordan for hosting me for the weekend.  Jetted on down to Spokane where I had a most enjoyable evening with Aaron and Haley who I stayed with before a very early flight out of Spokane the following morning.  4:45am is not so bad to wake up at when it's daylight out.  A very relaxing weekend in the PNW and the Okanagan.  I really enjoy the area... looking forward to a return in August... with many more enjoyable times... and better results and running.
