Our society has gotten used to the idea of "having it now" with most things in life. Much of the wants and desires of folks are easily acquirable items. Usually tangibles that can be picked up off a shelf or ordered over the 'net. As I was spectating IM CDA yesterday I overheard many the conversation by friends/family members about how they had come here for a shot at kona, or how that was the goal this year or next. On occasion it was easily discernable that this was either the family member's first year racing and in one case, their first race ever. Guess what, you CANT have it now. While you can buy the fancy bike and the nice wheels and the great wetsuit your hard earned buying power cannot buy you the fitness (well, sorta) that is required to get what you want now. It's paid for in sweat, tears, and most of all years. While desire and want are admirable traits, persistence and patience end up being far more fruitful in this endeavour.
When you seek out a coach do not think they will be able to aid you in a short time frame to get you what you want. Rather you need to view things in a very long mindset. It's hard for a coach to make a meaningful impact in a short time when big changes are what you want to happen. Commit to the relationship and to being open, and working with your advisor and making the communication very, very open. More than likely with a better perspective on your advancement you'll be more assured of your approach and the reality of your goals.....and that builds confidence.
